See my photography next week at the Midtown Arts Center
New and old work will be on exhibit starting Monday, Feb. 17, and running through mid March in the Midtown lobby
Whew, I’ve almost got it all done — getting ready for next week’s Midtown show, that is. Twenty-one works in all, which means a lot of framing, photographing and organizing, writing press releases, sending emails, printing wall labels and generally stressing out over every single decision: This photo, or that one? How to set prices?
And I still haven’t even begun to hang the show. That’s going to happen Thursday and Friday, before it opens to the public on Monday, Feb. 17.
Personally, I’m most excited this time around about a couple large canvas pieces I’ve done. After the Ice Storm, in the photo above, is my favorite. This, you might say, was an impulse panorama I shot one morning while walking in the woods. I turned to take a picture of the broken stump, and then clicked off a few more frames that I later stitched together in the computer to make a single large photograph, almost two by five feet. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked on a photo this large, and I have seldom worked on canvas — so this has been an adventure.
I used the same process for the shot below of a moss- and ivy-covered tree on the edge of our north pasture, and ended up with a finished hand colored photo of about the same size.
Anyway, do come out and see the exhibit. It’s in the lobby at Midtown Arts Center, the big building at the corner of 16th Avenue and Pearl Street. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, opening Monday, Feb. 17, and running through mid March.
I plan to be at the gallery this Monday morning from 11 to noon or so, if you want to come by for a viewing. Hope to see you there!
